FAQ

What The Heck Is A NanoMist Generator?

CoolMate’s advantage … the “Nano-Mist Generator” is the new generation of misting head exclusive to CoolMate. Nano-Mist Generators have hundreds of tiny holes that release a “nano” mist-spray that evaporates almost instantly making it a dripless operation. Old-school misting fans have one big hole that shoots out a spray of water soaking everything in its path — including you!

What Does Spot Cooling Mean?

Spot cooling is an industry term referring to systems like CoolMate fans that instantly cool the “spot” you’re in. Rather than wasting electricity waiting for your air conditioning system to cool down an entire room, spot cooling systems provide a quicker, more economical cooling solution.

Can CoolMate fans be used without the mist?

Yes! CoolMate fans are great fans on their own if you just want to circulate air. In fact, CoolMate’s advanced front and rear shroud design pushes through a much higher volume of air flow than any other fans in their size category. Then, of course, if you want a refreshing indoor mist you also have that option, too, but only from CoolMate!

Are CoolMate dripless indoor misting fans easy to operate?

Yes! First, before connecting the power to your fan, add water using the supplied funnel through the filling spout at the top of the fan until the internal water tank is full. NO HOSE HOOK-UP NECESSARY! Then adjust the fan to the desired angle, select a mist setting (High or Low) and a fan speed (High or Low). Please put the fan into it’s most upright position before adding water and be careful not to overfill the tank. The 2-in-1 Oscillating fan operates the same way only it is bigger and comes with an adjustable stand with maximum height of 48″ (122cm)

Won't the room get damp with water being sprayed out of the fan?

No, the patented Nano-Mist Generator allows the fan to cool its breeze using water droplets that are nearly microscopic in size and evaporate completely within inches of the fan blades — a dripless operation.

How many hours of mist do the fans make?

CoolMate’s Personal misting fans create mist for up to 6 hours when using the lower (overnight) setting. The 2-In-1 Oscillating fan will create mist for up to 8 hours on the lower (overnight) setting.

Can I put regular tap water in the fan's internal water tank?

Yes, the 2-in-1 Oscillating Fan comes with a special funnel-filter that removes minerals from tap water that would otherwise quickly clog the misting head (Nano-Mist Generator).
For the Personal Home and Vehicle versions of the fan, CoolMate recommends using distilled or demineralized water for peak performance. Bottled water is next best. Most tap water contains minerals that over time will clog up the Nano Mist Generator. If you use unfiltered tap water you will eventually have to clean the misting head with CLR or a similar product.

How powerful is the fan's breeze?

The 2-in-1 Oscillating fan’s breeze has a range of about 10 ft. (approx. 3 m). The Personal fan’s breeze can be felt up to 6 feet (1.8 meters). However, the closer you are to the nano-mist generator, the cooler the breeze.

Does the fan use much electricity?

No. CoolMate fans use hi-tech 12V motors that are safer, more efficient and use even less electricity than 110V fan motors of equal output.

Water and electricity - is it safe?

Yes. We tested thoroughly to make sure it’s completely safe. Because we use DC powered motors, there is no danger, even if the motor should accidentally get wet.

Can the fan become overheated and burnout?

Never! If the fan runs out of water, the advanced circuitry built-in will automatically shut it off and prevent misting head burnout after 4 hours. When you use a CoolMate without the misting function turned on, it works the same as an ordinary fan.

Does the fan's internal water tank have to be cleaned?

No. Not if you use CoolMate’s funnel-filter or refill with distilled (demineralized) water. If unfiltered, hard tap water has been used repeatedly, you may eventually have to clean the tank with a commercial descaler like CLR or white vinegar.

How big are the Personal misting fans?

The Personal fan is 7.25 inches tall (18.4 cm), 5.75 inches wide (14.6 cm) and 3 inches deep (7.6 cm).

How big are the 2-in-1 Oscillating misting fans?

How long is the 12 volt adapter cord?

The cord measures 45-inches (114 cm) in length.

Is the Personal fan light enough to clip on a dashboard?

If my fan stops misting, what should I do?

(1) Airlocks or (2) not enough water or (3) clogged misting heads are the three most common reasons that will cause your fan to stop misting.
Recently, a CoolMate customer experienced this problem and told us in an email how he handled the situation …
“I have 6 coolmate fans and if a head become clogged – instead of taking everything apart – this is what I do. I take a squirt bottle filled with distilled water, turn the fan on high, and with the bottle at small, concentrated stream, squirt the head and the problem is solved.”
Another customer wrote: “My Nano-Mist Generator mist head stop misting for some reason. Just for fun, I picked up the fan and put it close to my lips and blew hard on the mist head, and it started misting immediately. Thought you might like to know this.”
You can try following the advice of our CoolMate customers OR download a CoolMate Owners Manual and refer to the “Basic Trouble Shooting Guide” section for information on how to remedy these situations, especially if you believe the Nano-Mist Generator is clogged up.
